What It Means to Feel at “Home” in Your Body
To me, “returning home to the body” is an act of defiance in direct opposition to the generations of policing by those who stubbornly claim that “we” don’t (and shouldn’t) belong. It’s the fight for self-sovereignty, veneration, and a reminder that pleasure is an abundant resource whose wells exist deep within ourselves. It’s the reprieve that we feel through understanding that what’s needed to be clear has been so the entire time, and that no weapon forged through hatred could ever dare to pierce the spirit. It’s the connective tissue grounding us to our truth, and reminding us of the intricate root system tethering us to our communities.
And So, What IS “Sex Therapy” Anyway?
Sex therapy is the process by which you and a therapist address concerns related to sex, intimacy, relationships, pleasure, and the body. Sex therapy can be completed solo, in a couple+ dynamic, and there are even sex therapy/sex therapy adjacent support groups. As sex therapists, we are tasked with aiding you in making sense of, making peace with, and unpacking the relational, emotional, and psychological factors that impact and are impacted by the aforementioned areas of connection. This also takes into consideration your social location, or rather, the specific sociocultural, biological, and environmental contexts of your lived experience and those who you’re in relationship with.
